Alberto Sughi was born in Cesena October 5, 1928. Considered one of the most famous Italian painters of the generation that began in the early fifties, Sughi and one of the leading figurative painter in an area which has repeatedly spoken of "existential realism".The paintings of the early '40s, although not devoid of interest, are only a foretaste of what the artist created from the following decade. Widely master of his own pictorial language, he paints with lucid objectivity, mixed with bits of expressionistic formal surrender, works inspired by metropolitan life. He reveals to the public in a group held in 1946 in his hometown. In the same year, staying briefly in Turin, where he worked as an illustrator for the Gazzetta del Popolo. In 1948 he moved to Rome where he remained until 1951. There he meets various artists including Marcello Muccini and Renzo Vespignani that are part of the "Group of Portonaccio."
This meeting will be crucial both in terms of human and artistic. He back in Cesena in 1951. The subsequent period up to 1956, marks the transition from a "social realism" an "existential". The search for Alberto Sauces proceeds in an almost constant, in thematic cycles, which have the flavor of the film sequence. Before the so-called "green paint", dedicated to the relationship between man and nature (1971-1973), then the cycle "Dinner" (1975-1976), in the early eighties belong twenty paintings and fifteen studies of "Image and memory of the family "since 1985 and the ongoing the series of " Evening or reflection. "
The latest series of large paintings, exhibited in 2000, is titled "Nocturne". Sughi has participated in all major exhibitions of contemporary art, from the International Art Biennale of Venice to Quadrennial of Rome up to the many exhibitions that have brought the history of Italian art abroad by the seventies to today. Italian and foreign museums have dedicated extensive retrospective exhibitions, stand out the Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna (1977), the Gallery of the Stables in Moscow (1978), the Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest and the National Gallery in Prague (1986), Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna di Ferrara (1988), the Casa Masaccio in San Giovanni Valdarno (1990), the Museo d'Arte Assis Chateaubriand in Sao Paulo in Brazil (1994) and the Museo Civico di San Sepulcher (2003).Sughi was in the cycle of exhibitions "The search for identity" in Cagliari, Palermo and Ascoli Piceno (2003-2004) and the exhibition "The Evil. Exercises in painting cruel" to the Royal Hunting Stupinigi, Turin (2005). In 1994, Sauces has served as president of the Quadrennial of National Art in Rome. That same year he participated in the exhibition "The portrait inner, the Regional Archaeological Museum of Aosta.
The CSAC end the University of Parma have dedicated a major exhibition in the Hall Stables in Pilotta in Parma (2005-2006). The Library Malatesta of Cesena has devoted a monographic exhibition curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. (2007). On 21 July in Rome will open a retrospective exhibition devoted to "Alberto Sughi" hosted at the Complesso del Vittoriano (21 July to 23 September 2007).
