Ennio Calabria was born in Tripoli, March 7, 1937. Lives and works in Rome.  In 1958 his first solo show at the gallery "La Felucca" in Rome. Ennio Calabria was then identified by critics of art among the most significant painters of the generation emerged between 1950 and 1960, always with a witness of his time painting faces in social autobiographical.
In 1963, along with painters Attardi, Farulli Gianquinto, Guccione and Vespignani, and critics Del Guercio, Micacchi and Morosini founded the group "The pros and cons", which becomes a strong point for new research in Italy during the figurative hegemony of the informal market.Throughout his artistic career Ennio Calabria has received numerous prestigious awards and has participated in important exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial.He also illustrated several volumes of poetry, short stories and book covers. Produced about 90 posters, for the Orlando Furioso by Luca Ronconi; for ARCI, the Cooperative League, UISP, CGIL, CISL, PCI, women's movement, Fondazione Basso etc..
In 1981 he published an anthology of graphic 1953-1981, Editrice La Linea. The collection of posters and the work of engraving was exhibited accompanied by discussions in various cities in Italy and abroad.His first retrospective took place in 1985 at the Rotonda della Besana, Milan and in 1987 at Castel S. Angelo, Rome, accompanied by a monograph with essays by M. De Micheli, D. Micacchi, G. Carandente published by the gospels. On the occasion of personal exhibition "Works 1980-1990 in the Church of the Carmine in Taormina in 1990 was published with text by the volume edited by E. Calabria 'Electa. In 90s  is the cycle of works' “Ambiguity' s seen."
The theme that pervades it is the high rate of social exchanges of our times and the constant metamorphosis of being that it is the consequence, this raises research painting a picture, mostly anthropomorphic, such as "accident" that affirms and while denies it. This cycle works has been exhibited in various public and private locations, including: Baumgarte Galerie, Briefeld (Germany), Palazzo dei Papi, Viterbo, 1994; Museum "R. Ridola" Matera, 1996. These same years the number of crayons "the sea near spearhead the new pictorial research, displayed in a traveling exhibition in several Italian cities, accompanied by a catalog with essays by L. Martini, L. Cancrini, E. Calabria. Del 1999 is a general catalog "etchings from 1955 to 1996, with text by F. De Santi critical historical research and scientific texts by L. Martini, published by the Cabinet of Prints of Ancient and Modern Bagnacavallo.
After the staff dedicated to the syntax of the loop road at the Museo Civico di Chieti (2002), in 2004, presents a series of portraits of John Paul II at the Museum of Pescara Vittoria Colonna and the Reggia di Caserta.His works are in numerous private and public collections including: Metropolitan New York, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Moscow's Pushkin Museum, Museum of Krakow Wroclaw; Museum of Eilat (Israel), Museum of Contemporary Art in Sofia; Gucci Gallery New York, Colombe d'Or in St. Paul de Vence (France), Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Roma. He was also the protagonist of the following movies: Fight against monsters, 1964, directed by Gianni Gigi; Calabria: Two years of painting, directed by M. Coal Viewed from near Ennio Calabria 1979 edited by R. Bertoni, directed by F. Marotta, Special 1975, directed by S. Shepherd; artists today, a program of F.
